The people on the island are very hospitable they heartily greet everyone with (καλώς ορίσατε), which means welcome. When you visit someone in Cyprus at their home you will be treated as you are a celebrity. The people are ready to satisfy every your wish as coffee, sandwich or whatever you will need. The will not let to do some chores in the house even if they and you know that you are going to stay all the day in the house.
It is normal when you go somewhere to eat at a restaurant to be a complimentary glass of Ouzo or Zivania which are traditional Cypriot spirits or a desert att the end of the meal. You must accept them because the for the people there they take it personally if you decline then.
The area has a very delicious style of BBQ – Souvla (σούβλα). Where you can see a large pieces or port to me slowly rotated and cooked for three or more hours. As everywhere there are some traditional meals which are made and eaten at the specific time of the year.
- Christmas – it is normal the people to prepare a special cake – Vasilopita (Βασιλόπιτα) in which has been placed a coin which brings good luck to the person who finds it in his piece or bread.
- Easter – they prepare a delicious type of pastry called Flaouna (φλαούνα) often they are with cheese, raisins, and sesame seeds.
Cyprus has very popular food and drinks as Ouzo, Mousaka, Halloumi, Koupepia, Turkish Delight known in the area as Loukoumi, Baklava and many more. The people in the area are proud of the variety of the food they have!
